SPM to Zyte API via Proxy Mode - Customer FAQ#
This page explains the no-action migration of SPM traffic to Zyte API Proxy Mode using a translation layer. It’s for SPM customers who still send traffic via SPM.
Why we’re doing this#
SPM is end-of-life. To discontinue it safely (and avoid forcing a manual rewrite), we’re moving all remaining SPM traffic onto Zyte API Proxy Mode using a translation layer that preserves request semantics.
What’s changing#
No code changes needed. You’ll keep sending requests exactly as you do today (same hostnames, same keys).
Behind the scenes, your traffic will be routed via DNS to Zyte API Proxy Mode, and our translation layer will map SPM behaviors to Zyte API Proxy Mode automatically.
Your SPM plan becomes a Zyte API “Migration Plan” with the same monthly commitment, a 2x spending limit, and standard discounts.
SPM Platform will then be retired.
When is it happening#
We plan to complete the automigration during the first week of December 2025 (Dec 1–8). You’re viewing this as part of the advance notice we’ve sent; you’ll also receive a 48-hour reminder with the exact automatic migration date.
FAQ for auto-migrated customers#
- Q: Who is this FAQ not for?
A: This page is only for SPM Platform customers who still send traffic via SPM and will be automigrated. If you (a) already use Zyte API Proxy Mode, (b) use Zyte API (REST) exclusively, or (c) have no remaining SPM traffic, you don’t need this FAQ, please see our standard docs instead:

- Q: Do I need to change my code or hostnames?
A: No. Keep using the same SPM endpoints (for example,
123456.crawlera.com). We’ll update DNS so those requests are handled by Zyte API Proxy Mode. The translation layer ensures compatibility.- Q: Do I need new credentials?
A: No. Your existing keys will continue to authenticate. You’ll also get access to your Zyte API key for future use, but it’s not required for this migration to work.
- Q: Will my requests behave the same?
A: Yes. Ban handling and rotation continue; the translation layer adapts headers and behavior so calls succeed as before. If you later want advanced features (browser automation, automatic extraction, server-managed sessions), you can switch to full Zyte API (REST) on your timeline.
- Q: Will there be downtime?
A: We perform the change during a normal maintenance window. Expect only minutes of downtime, if any. We’ll provide a 48-hour reminder with your window.
- Q: What if I already adopted Zyte API Proxy Mode voluntarily?
A: Nothing changes; you’re already on the target path. This FAQ mainly applies to customers who didn’t opt in and are being migrated automatically.
- Q: I didn’t choose Zyte API Proxy Mode, why am I being moved?
A: To retire SPM safely. Proxy Mode provides a drop-in runway with zero effort from you. You can remain on Proxy Mode or move to full Zyte API (REST) later to unlock advanced features.
- Q: Can I select my migration time?
A: Migration occurs at a time that minimizes global impact, within a standard maintenance window. We’ll give you the exact time 48 hours ahead.
- Q: Can I opt out and remain on SPM?
A: No. SPM is being discontinued. Zyte API (via Proxy Mode) is fully compatible and comes at no additional cost.
- Q: Will my SPM API key continue to work after the move?
A: Yes. Your current SPM keys and request pattern will continue to work through the translation layer, no changes needed.
- Q: What hostname do I need to update?
A: None. We will update DNS for you. Your existing SPM hostnames will resolve to Zyte API Proxy Mode.
- Q: Will existing job stats display differently?
A: No. Stats appear as if executed by SPM, though execution happens via Zyte API Proxy Mode.
- Q: Can I move to full Zyte API (REST) later?
A: Absolutely. When you’re ready to use features like browser automation or AI extraction, we’ll provide guidance and examples. Until then, your current workflow continues unchanged.
- Q: Who do I contact if something looks off after migration?
A: Your usual Zyte support channel
support@zyte.com.- Q: How can I start making use of Zyte API REST?
A: In order to start making use of Zyte API in its full REST mode download and start using an API key from the left side menu in our Dashboard interface.
Reporting#
- Q: Will my usage and dashboards change?
A: After migration, you’ll see usage in the Zyte API Dashboard. Historical SPM usage won’t be available there. Access to the Zyte API dashboard will be set up automatically for your org.
- Q: How do I get access to the usage reports for my new or updated subscription?
A: Usage reports are accessible from the left side menu in our Dashboard interface.
Billing#
- Q: Will my pricing change?
A: Your SPM monthly commitment maps 1:1 to a Zyte API commitment (plan value = monthly commitment; spending limit = 2x monthly commitment). If you also had a positive Zyte API commitment, we consolidate (SPM + Zyte API) into a single Zyte API plan.
- Q: How does pricing work on Zyte API after my SPM account is migrated?
A: We transfer you to a Zyte API Migration Plan: a monthly commitment equal to your current SPM spend (with a 2x spending limit) and your standard discounts.
In practice:
If your traffic pattern stays similar to recent SPM usage, your commitment will cover it, no change in what you pay.
If you exceed the commitment, the extra usage is billed as overage at your discounted Zyte API rates.
Zyte API uses domain-based pricing behind the scenes to keep costs efficient and predictable; your commitment applies across your traffic, not just specific sites.
You can monitor usage in the Zyte API dashboard and adjust plans later if your needs grow. Check out our Zyte API pricing calculator [link]
- Q: How does my subscription will look like?
A: Subscriptions page will now display a new or updated Zyte API subscription as follows (Figures may vary):
If you press Modify button you’ll be able to see more details of your current subscription.
